St. Francis Assissi and his Prayer of Peace
Yesterday, I found this short prayer writen anonymously that simply touches. I thought of so many people I haven't heard from for such a long time, and more so, supposed friends simply out of touch from each others' busy lives. I share it with warm thoughts:"Lord, make old people tolerant,
Young folk sympathetic,
Great folk humble,
Busy folk patient,
Bad folk good,
And make me what I ought to be."
A while back, I had interesting discussions in my Suite101's Great Thinkers blog with a writing colleague Georgene Bramlage (she's Suite101's Landscaping Feature Writer). Our topic drifted to St Francis of Assisi, that great spiritual thinker who gave us his most-loved poem, Prayer of Peace. I'm so inspired to post it here, if only to serve as a reminder that every now and then we need to quiet down our soul.
PRAYER OF PEACE
Edited by Peter Y. Chou, WisdomPortal.com
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Saint Francis of Assisi
(1181-1226),
Prayer of Peace

Comment from Georgene:
Tel,
I am flattered that our discussion was an inspiration.
I appreciate your banner photo a lot! One wants to walk right into it and keep walking!
It reminds me (in my mind full of landscape trivia) of a section of the Vanderbilt Estate in the U.S. (North Carolina).
This setting was used in the most recent edition of "Last of the Mohicans" featuring Daniel Day Lewis recent academy award winner.
Best to you from eastern N.A. on this early Sunday AM.
