Singing to God from Biblical Verses

This post is inspired after reading a passage from the book of Psalms, full of praises to God. The Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is filled with numerous references to singing, including direct commands to sing or simply worship the Lord in songs. It also tells us not merely to sing aloud, but importantly, to sing with joy, gladness and thankfulness. Here are few of those verses that sing praises to the Lord with resounding joy:

Music from the Inner Being

"So what shall I do?
I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind;
I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind."
~ I Corinthians 14:15

Sing Praise with Understanding

"For God is the King of all the earth;
sing to him a psalm" of praise." ~ Psalm 47:7

Songs to God the Almighty

"Come, let us sing tfor joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song." ~ Psalm 95:1-2

Communicate with each other in Singing

This is exactly what happens in church congregational singing. We communicate, relate, and talk to one another in songs, for God.

"Speak to one another with psalms,
hymns and spiritual songs.
Sing and make music in your heart
to the Lord. ~ Ephesians 5:19

In singing together, we experience joy in Christ as we glorify him in song.

A while back, I took this picture whilst worshiping online at ABC1. I know it was a Sunday but I can't remember the date and time. / Tel
